ABOUT ALINDA

Alinda (Ancient Greek: Ἄλινδα) was an inland city in ancient Caria, Asia Minor. Modern scholars identify it with Alexandria ad Latmum, situated near present-day Karpuzlu, Aydın Province, western Turkey. The fortress of Alinda was held by the exiled Carian Queen Ada, who greeted Alexander the Great there in 334 BC — after which Alexander granted her rulership over all of Caria. The site preserves a 5,000-seat Roman amphitheater, a nearly intact marketplace, a Roman aqueduct, Carian tombs, and the remains of temples and sarcophagi.
